Google+ What in the heck is it?

Happy Monday, everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend!

So as I promised this past Friday, today we're going to looking into Google+

Like many of you, I stumbled upon Google+ by word of mouth, or word of status messages that is. All the sudden on Facebook, I was seeing posts everywhere about Google+. The general consensus among the posts was this: 'I don't want to have to uproot all my pages and friends and move them over to Google+. I'm just now starting to like FB after switching over from Myspace,' or similar responses.

My response: what the heck is Google+?

From the posts of others, I gathered that it was a new social networking site, somewhat similar to FB, Myspace or Twitter. I also learned that it was still in the testing phase and you currently have to be invited in order to join and try it.

Though this is a fair amount of information, I still wanted to know more. I wanted to know what would make everyone want to switch over to Google+. After all, who wants to move all their social networking to yet another site? Not me, that's for sure. So I thought I would check out what Google+ is all about.

Here are a list of features available on Google+:

--The Circles App: This app allows you to share information and status posts with only certain people. For example, you can limit a post complaining about your job so that way only your friends can see it; your boss can be a circle of his own.
--Hangouts: Quite like the location feature on FB and Twitter, this allows you to show your friends where you're currently at, so then they can come hang out with you for some "Face-to-Face time" as Google calls it.
--Instant uploading: You no longer have to struggle with putting your photos and videos from your phone onto your computer. When you take a picture or video it is automatically uploaded from your phone to a private folder on Google+ where you can choose who to share it with later.
--Huddle App: This allows you to text message multiple people. For example, if you're going to the movies with six people and you're having trouble texting them all separate messages you can use this feature and everyone can see what everyone else is saying, so it's like a group conversation.

Personally, I don't find any of these features to be fantastic enough that I want to switch over to Google+. But, of course, that is just my opinion. For more information on Google+ follow the link: http://www.google.com/intl/en-US/+/demo/

So what about you? Are you ready to make the switch over to Google+ or do you want things to remain the same? If you're ready to switch, tell us why, and if you're already on there, tell us what's so great about it. I'd like to here your thoughts.

On Wednesday, I'm going to announce our big one year blogoversary giveaway! You won't want to miss it! Til then ;-)

  1. I am there to check it out, and enjoying it so far. It's cleaner than Facebook. And no need to switch, just add it as yet another networking opportunity.
