Fictional Priorities

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Hope you're all having a great week!

I came across this little gem on Facebook a while ago and thought I'd share it with you. "Going to the grocery store just isn't a priority when the fate of a fictional character is hanging in the balance."

So I was wondering, have you ever neglected priorities, obligations, or even just your 'to-do' list for the sake of a fictional character? If you're really enjoying the book your reading, do you have a hard time putting it down until you're finished?

For me, a book that I love that made me neglect my priorities was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I bought the book right after Thanksgiving of 2010, when I was still an undergraduate student. I decided to open it and read a few pages one day, during the middle of semester finals week. Boy, was that a mistake! I had a 16 page paper to write for a class on postcolonial fiction. I'd procrastinated and it was due in two days! But I could NOT put The Hunger Games down! So what did I do? Well...I spent a day reading The Hunger Games and then wrote a 16 page research paper in one day. Surprisingly enough, I got a B+ on the paper. Moral of the story: I don't know, you tell me lol.

Someday, I hope that my books, like SHADOW HUNTER, will be enough of a page-turner that someone can't put it down either.

What's a book that's done this to you? Leave your answer in the comments. Til Friday ;-)

  1. Hello! Lovely post. I know I get like that sometimes, haha. For me it's whenever I pick up Harry Potter (Rowling), The False Prince (Nielsen), or Emily the Strange (Reger). The first Hunger Games novel got to me, too. I got it at a middle school book fair... like, what? Four years ago? It was well before the hype. I loved it so much, though.

And ohmygoodness, I love that! Grocery shopping really isn't as appealing as watching to see if a fictional character makes it out alive. ^.^

Anyways, I wanted tot tell you I nominated you for the Lovely Blog Award! You have such a cool blog layout. I especially love that quote you have in the header. Nice. :)

    Have a blessed day!

    1. Thank you! That's very sweet of you! I'm glad you like the blog layout! I love that quote too. I try to make sure that every book I write is exactly like something I'd want to read. =)

J.K Rowling is one of my page-turners too. But only Harry Potter, since I haven't read her new adult book. I haven't read The False Prince, but I read Emily the Strange a loooonnnggg time ago lol.

      Thanks again for the nomination!

  3. Hahaha lately every book does this to me. Only because my life is so incredibly busy right now that I should just not be reading at all. When I read I really need to be doing other things that are more important, that have a dead line, that will cause a huge fail in my life if not done...

    Which sucks lots.

So I haven't been reading much at all recently because I just can't afford the time :(

Before everything got really busy Enclave by Ann Aguirre was the book that I could not put down when I really needed to do other things!

    1. Hi there! I know exactly what you mean. When you're busy reading becomes such an escape home the hustle and bustle of every day life that you can't help but want to keep reading, no matter what. It has been like that for me lately, too. I have never read Enclave, but I looked it up and it sounds interesting. Thanks for commenting! Have a great week!
